In the early 1960's, Reverend Ralph E. Clegg, our founder, was a minister at a small church in a rural town in North Carolina. The church developed a termite problem. Several termite control companies gave Rev. Clegg estimates for controlling the termites. The cost, unfortunately, was too much for the small church to afford. Rev. Clegg decided to learn all he could about termites from a friend at North Carolina State University and also from what was written. With the assistance of the other church members, Rev. Clegg treated the church successfully.

The treatment performed at the small church was just the beginning. Soon other church members, who were also in need of termite control, were having Rev. Clegg treat their homes. In 1964 Rev. Clegg incorporated Clegg's Termite and Pest Control. The company's initial beginning was limited, only performing termite treatments. However, soon due to requests and needs, these services were expanded to also perform pest control services. The company was developing from a hobby with a few employees working out of Rev. Clegg's home.

In 1970, his son, Phil Clegg, now President of Clegg's Termite and Pest Control, joined the firm after working as a pilot with the North Carolina Forest Service in their aerial fire patrol. Before working with the Forest Service, Phil had graduated from NC State with a Forestry/Entomology double major and then continued on to serve in the Air Force. Phil now uses his talent and love of flying he learned in the Air Force, to regularly visit the branches throughout the company's service territory.

Even after retirement, Rev. Clegg continued to play a major role in the growth and expansion of the company. Father and son working together made Clegg's Termite and Pest Control what it is today.

We've now been in business for over thirty-five years and Clegg's Termite and Pest Control has developed into the only individually owned and operated pest control company headquartered in North Carolina that provides pest control services in North Carolina, South Carolina, southern Virginia, and northern Georgia.  We currently have thirteen offices located throughout North Carolina to provide service to our customers. These office locations range from Asheville, in the mountains, to Wilmington, on the coast. The North Carolina Structural Pest Control Committee licenses us and each office has a licensee on staff. In addition to providing pest and termite control services we are also licensed to provide both structural and commodity fumigation services.

Our customers include numerous residential, institutional, and commercial accounts. To provide the personalized service and attention our customers expect and deserve. Our service personnel are well trained and equipped with mobile communication equipment. This equipment enables us to render quick and efficient service where and when it is needed. We pride ourselves in putting our customers first, no matter how large or small, after all "Satisfied Customers Make Our Business".

Our Technical Director, with a Masters Degree in Urban Entomology, is a Board Certified Entomologist. He oversees training and quality assurance. We also have a staff of entomologists from several universities to assist in training and updating our service personnel in the newest technologies and methods, and also to educate them in the biology and behavior of structural pests. They conduct classroom and in field training which consists of the following:

Classroom training programs are held bi-monthly and they cover a variety of subjects with a major emphasis towards safety and technical knowledge. Our staff of entomologists and/or outside industry professionals conducts the sessions. All meetings are documented.

Field training. Formal instruction is followed up in the field by our staff entomologists. This is accomplished by on the job training with each service technician on a rotational basis.

TechTalk, our technical newsletter, is produced bi-monthly for our service technicians. It covers a variety of subjects to update them, reinforce training, and improve their performance.

We have a fleet of over one hundred and eighty vehicles to serve our customers. These are maintained by our in-house mechanics and all vehicles are on a computerized preventative maintenance schedule. Our service equipment includes the latest technologies available and we are often asked by manufacturers to assist in developing new technologies and advanced methods.

As recognition of our accomplishments, in 1984 our company was awarded the "Pest Control Company of the Year". Our company president, Phil Clegg, has served as president of both the North Carolina Pest Control Association and the National Pest Management Association.

Over the years, the pest control industry has changed and changes are many times necessary. Rev. Clegg passed the company on to his son Phil, and Phil is now passing it on to his son Phillip Clegg, II. However, keeping the things that work, like great customer service will never change at Clegg's Termite and Pest Control. Our company has been built on satisfied customers and because of that fact it will continue to grow because "Satisfied Customers Make Our Business". As long as there is a need for great customer service, there will be a need for Clegg's Termite and Pest Control.
