Signs of Moles in Your Yard

  • Raised tunnels or ridges — Snaking lines just under the surface of your lawn that feel spongy when stepped on
  • Molehills — Cone-shaped mounds of loose soil, usually without a visible hole
  • Uneven or collapsing soil — Ground that seems to shift, sink, or rise back up after being flattened
  • Damaged grass or plants (but not eaten) — Wilting or yellowing caused by root disruption, not feeding
  • No gnaw marks or holes — Moles don’t chew plants or leave open holes like voles or gophers do

Since moles do not eat plants, they actually destroy your yard in indirect ways. When looking for worms, they can scrape dirt away from root systems and remove plants’ source of nourishment. The tunnels they create can also allow other animals to come and eat away at the roots of your plants and shrubs.

How to Get Rid of Moles

We have an experienced team of experts that can help remediate moles in your yard. Clegg’s uses Bell Labs’ TALPIRID bait to kill moles and prevent them from doing more damage. This bait works by resembling the mole’s natural food, the earthworm. Upon application, your well-manicured lawn will be free of these pests in no time. We offer one-time mole remediation services as well as year-round protection options.

Other options include:

  • Trapping (Most Reliable)
  • Repellents
  • Poison Baits
  • Electronic Sonic Spikes
  • Flooding or Smoking Tunnels
  • Professional Mole Control

You can try to do it yourself, or you can call Clegg’s and consider it done!

Moles vs Voles

Moles and voles are often confused because they both create visible damage in yards, but they’re very different animals. Moles are insectivores with paddle-like front feet, built for digging tunnels underground in search of grubs and earthworms. They leave behind raised ridges and volcano-shaped mounds of dirt.

Voles, on the other hand, are small plant-eating rodents that look like chunky mice. They don’t tunnel deeply like moles but instead create shallow surface runways and small holes in the lawn. While moles damage lawns by uprooting soil, voles damage plants by gnawing on roots, stems, and bark.
