Have you ever wondered where ticks come from? Ticks are parasites that rely on a host to survive. Before a tick clings onto a host, it actually begins its life in nature. It will live on a blade of tall grass or a stick that extends up into the air and waits for a host to walk by and brush up against it. It then grabs onto the host and embeds itself into the skin in order to feed on blood. Other than making people uncomfortable, ticks are also be a problem because they carry harmful pathogens such as Lyme Disease. For this reason, it is important to avoid ticks as much as possible.

Nobody wants ticks in their yard. There are many different types of ticks found in North Carolina. Fortunately we are able to get rid of ticks that may be living around your home. Contact Clegg’s Pest Control today to schedule a free inspection. Give us a call or fill out the online contact form below to take the first steps to keeping your yard tick free.

Where do Ticks Live?

Ticks start their life cycle as an egg. Once the larva hatch they try to find a host. Small mammals such as rabbits, squirrels and even birds serve as the first host for a baby tick. Eventually the tick will drop off, molt, then begin the hunt for a larger host. This is the phase where ticks usually affect pets and people. Ticks are often found in wooded or grassy areas where they drop off of their initial host and wait for a larger host. Areas with a lot of tall grass, sticks, trees or shrubs serve as great places for ticks to grab onto a large host.

The most common ways ticks come in contact with a person is when someone is walking in the woods and brushing up against the plants or sticks that ticks are waiting on. A common question that our customers ask us is “can you get rid of the ticks in your yard?”
